Apple Releases the Most Powerful iPad Pro!

May 15, 2024 JUST ONE NAME

After 18 months without an update, Apple's iPad lineup finally received a major upgrade yesterday. Being the last major product released during Steve Jobs' tenure, the iPad indeed created and defined a new device category. However, the debate about whether the iPad truly offers productivity has persisted. Yesterday, at the product launch event, Tim Cook once again responded to Steve Jobs' 2010 imagining of the future of computers. For the first time, Apple is debuting its most powerful chip in the iPad series, making the iPad pro the first truly AI-powered Apple device, kicking off the tech company's embrace of the AIGC wave. This move implies that while the iPad may not be a revolutionary product today, it still brings together Apple's most advanced technologies and plays a significant role in Apple's future AI strategy. This evening's event also acts as a preview for the upcoming WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) in June.

iPad Pro Receives Its Biggest Update

  • The new iPad Pro lineup now features OLED displays as standard, replacing the previous LED/mini-LED displays. Thanks to the self-luminous nature of OLED displays, the iPad Pro switches to OLED for deeper blacks and high contrast, delivering more vibrant and true-to-life colours, and far more detail in dark and low-light areas than its iPad predecessor. The iPad Pro's new OLED screen also features a dual-layer tandem structure, a design that significantly improves the brightness and durability of the screen compared to the traditional single-layer pixel structure. What's more, this technology shares the display load by adding an extra layer of pixels, which reduces the work intensity of each pixel point, which is especially important for extending the lifespan of an OLED screen.

  • AI is the highlight of Apple this year, and implementing AI+iPad Pro is the key priority. The new iPad Pro skips Apple's latest M3 series chips and introduces the M4 series chips built on the second-generation 3-nanometer process. The CPU of the M4 chip is 50% faster than the M2 chip, the overall performance is 4 times faster than the previous iPad Pro, and it supports light tracing for the first time. Apple claims that its neural engine is the most powerful ever, capable of performing 38 trillion operations per second, 60 times more powerful than the A11 chip. It's powerful enough to stand up to all of today's AI PCs.

To improve the iPad Pro's ability to dissipate heat, Apple also used graphite in the casing for heat dissipation          and overlaid copper where the Apple Logo would be. This design, coupled with the M4 chip, enables the iPad      Pro to achieve only a quarter of the power consumption of a typical PC. The M4 chips, equipped with the      advanced neural engine, significantly enhance AI capabilities. For example, the iPadOS can now work      seamlessly with the camera, allowing direct scanning of documents to convert them into electronic files.      Compared to the recently released "Best Consumer PCs with AI,"  the new iPad Pro can genuinely be      considered Apple's first AI-driven device.

  • The new iPad Pro models have undergone minor adjustments in size, with the 12.9-inch version extending to 13 inches after nine years. Additionally, the new iPad Pro features narrower bezels, providing a cleaner and more refreshing front view. Since the OLED screen doesn't require a backlight module to provide illumination for the screen, the new iPad Pro's overall thickness has been reduced by removing this layer of structure, making it Apple's thinnest iPad Pro ever. The 11-inch iPad Pro thickness has decreased from 5.9mm to 5.3mm, while the other one version's thickness has decreased from 6.4mm to 5.1mm.

  • The repositioning of the front-facing camera is a noteworthy improvement. The new iPad Pro is more suitable for landscape orientation, especially when coupled with the newly released Magic Keyboard. It's still a world away from a laptop, but externally, the configuration is very close to the feel of a PC.
  • It is worth noting that the maximum storage capacity of the new iPad Pro remains at 2TB.

The new iPad Pro's significant upgrade also means a steep increase in price. The official Apple website shows that the 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $999, with the highest-end model priced at $2299. The 13-inch iPad Pro starts at $1299, with the top-of-the-line 13-inch, 2TB, cellular, and nano-textured glass variant priced at $2599.

The above information introduces the latest iPad Pro. We will continue to update with new content regarding the iPad Air and other electronic accessories. Stay tuned for more updates.
